Climate

New Zealand’s seasons, like those of neighbouring Australia, are the reverse of those found in North America and Europe. The coldest winter month is July, while the warmest summer month is usually either January or February.

The North Island’s climate varies, with the far North part of the island classified as sub-tropical climate zone, with warm humid summers and mild winters, while the rest of the island by-and-large features mild temperatures throughout the year, with moderate amounts of rainfall and lots of sunshine.

A detailed overview of New Zealand’s climate can be found at the country’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research website.
